Bringing Books Back

Have you heard that Frisco ISD has a new circulation system?  There are many new things associated with this new system.  Parents now receive an email when student books are overdue.  Students are not allowed to check out books when they have an overdue book.  And there is a new online catalog and kids’ catalog to browse. So, if you’re headed to the library, make sure you have ALL your library books.

A Monster of a Book Fair

monsterNorris students are gearing up for our very first book fair.  The count down in front of the library has been preparing them for this event since Meet the Teacher Night.  Lots of books will offer the students a wide variety of genres and topics to suite even the pickiest reader.  Check out some of the great videos by watching the Book Fair Video.

Scholastic has a program called One for Books.   This year, the funds collected will be used to buy Guided Reading books for our school!  Students place their donations into one of the monster decorated donation boxes.  Mrs. Abney has agreed to dress up like the winning monster during Norris Now.  So, let’s see what crazy monster we can turn Mrs. Abney into!

Welcome to Norris

Norris logoWe are so excited about opening Norris Elementary.  The library is going to be a great place to explore and build our students’ imaginations.  Be on the look out for library programs beginning after school starts.  The library will have lots to offer the students, parents, teachers, and staff.  I look forward to a great year.

E is for Everyone

WhenE if for... browsing the library many older students and adults will pass by what used to be known as the easy section.  At Norris Elementary the picture books are known as the Everybody books.  After reading many of the books in this section of the library, I can honestly say they are not all easy, but everyone can enjoy them.  Picture books can open the world to so many different time periods and places.  The beautiful use of language in many picture books helps develop writing skills in even the oldest learners.  The illustrations are often works of art that help connect the readers to the text.  So, before you walk past those picture books, open one up and you will see that they are for Everyone.

Enjoy articles by Tomie DePaola, Rosemary Wells, and Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen as they share their thoughts about the importance of picture books.
